French Ambassador in Belgrade Christine Moro has hosted students of the University of Belgrade within the Open Doors campaign.

Before taking the tour of the Embassy, Moro told the press she believed there was a good prospect of opening chapters 23 and 24 within Serbia’s EU negotiations by the end of June or in early July.

“This is very good news for Serbia and I would like to say France has for the whole time supported the opening of these chapters which represent a symbolic step but a tangible one too, as the more detailed work continues between Serbia and its European partners,” Moro said.

These chapters, Moro reminded, are about the rule of law, justice reform, fundamental rights – all of which are important topics bringing Serbia closer to European societies.

Asked to share some news concerning chapter 5 – public procurement – for which Serbia had already submitted its negotiating position, Moro said “I know much work has been carried out on that chapter, but let’s not forget the real priorities – swift opening of chapters 23 and 24.”

“Other chapters are also subject to hard work, not only by authorities but also the Parliament, non-governmental sector and public administration, and I am convinced that in the near future we can expect continuous opening of the remaining chapters,” Moro said.

Art Deco gem and football fans gathering place

Opening the Embassy doors to students, Moro underscored the Embassy was at the same time part of the French territory and European soil. She said she was happy to host the students at the Embassy which, as she put it, “is a special gem in the history of Art Deco, French culture and French cultural heritage.”

By paying a visit to the Embassy, each student becomes one step closer to EU integration, even though they are already standing on European ground, she said.

According to her, students have every right to ask questions concerning Europe, the European Union and European integration.

Christine Moro told students she hoped many of them would soon visit France if they haven’t already, or continue their education there.

Architecture and art history students visited the halls and gardens of the French Embassy in Belgrade.

In the evening, Moro said, the Embassy will host football fans on the occasion of 2016 Euro cup opening in France.

“This is a glimpse of the variety of activities of an embassy – we have a wide range of duties and are at the service of all regardless of their interests,” Moro said.
