On the first day of Europe film festival, organised on the occasion of Europe Day and held in Dom omladine from 16-21 May, Belgrade audience will have an opportunity to see four films, including 2014 Oscar winning foreign language film.

Even though the Europe film festival opening ceremony is scheduled for 20:00, Festival starts with a projection of Dvořák (Czech Republic 2013). Film deals with the biography of one of the most famous Czech musicians of all times, the author of the great New World Symphony.

Belgium’s The World Belongs to Us (Le monde nous appartient, 2013, 88 min) directed by Stephan Streker is scheduled for projection at 17:30.  The film shows the parallel destinies of two young men who look alike without knowing each other. They share the same values and the same desire for the absolute. They could be friends. And yet… An exciting thriller containing melodramatic elements, represents one of the finest Belgium film successes in recent years.

Following the opening ceremony at 20:00, the audience will have an opportunity to see 2014 Oscar-winning foreign language film The Great Beauty (La grande bellezza, 2013, 142 min) directed by Paolo Sorrentino. This is one of the most successful Italian films in past few decades, winner of over 20 awards at prestigious film festivals. Gambardella has seduced his way through the lavish night-life of Rome for decades, but after his 65th birthday, he decides to find the meaning of life in timeless beauty.

The projection of Snow White (Blancanieves, 2012, 104 min) directed by Pablo Berger closes the first Festival day. This film won eight of the national Goya awards. An extravagant, puzzling, unusual improvisation of the classic Snow White fairytale, set in 1920s Seville, with a female bullfighter in the centre of the action.

The motto of this year’s festival is “The In-Between Land” and is about marking ten years of the biggest EU enlargement. The festival, organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia, EUNIC, the EU Info Centre, and Dom omladine, explores this particular enlargement’s impact on mental landscape of the continent united in respect and glorification towards its cultural and natural diversity.

Attending the festival is free of charge. However, free tickets are required, and can be obtained via social networks or at the lounge of Dom omladine.
