Citizens and students of several Belgrade faculties took the opportunity to visit the Embassy of Austria in Belgrade within the Open Doors campaign. Over Sachertorte and coffee, they learned more about the country. This was the third time Austrian Embassy had taken part in the campaign in order to prove “the Embassy is not some kind of unapproachable fortress,” said the Ambassador of Austria in Serbia Johannes Eigner. He noted that the very good relations between the two countries were in part contributed by Serbian diaspora in Austria.

“From culture to politics, our relations are very good, partly due to a large number of Serbs living and working in Austria,” Eigner told Beta Agency during the Open Doors event held at the Embassy in Belgrade.

He stressed that the goal of that event, organised by the Embassy for the third time in cooperation with the EU Info Centre, was to allow Serbian citizens to meet with Embassy staff and bring them closer to that institution and the country it represents.

Eigner said citizens were given a chance to learn more about Austria over coffee and sweets and see that “the Embassy is not some kind of unapproachable fortress.”

“So, we are here to have fun and learn more about the country over Austrian coffee and sweets is what this is about,” Eigner said.

Austrija-2Also, an exhibit dedicated to the life and work of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt with reproductions of his paintings on display was organised on the ground floor of the Embassy.

Various brochures about Austria were also on display at the Embassy and the citizens had an opportunity to try traditional Austrian delicacies such as Sachertorte, Apfelstrudel and coffee.

Among other things, the citizens wanted to know more about the possibilities of studying in Austria.

Serbian citizens and students have so far had the opportunity to visit the embassies of Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Belgium, Italy, Czech Republic and France within the Open Doors campaign organised with support from the EU Delegation to Serbia and EU Info Centre.
