The distribution of 50.000 doses from the EU vaccine bank to assist the Serbian authorities in their fight against Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) started today. The vaccines are being delivered in the most affected areas in Serbia.

The EU welcomes the timely and efficient sharing of epidemiological information from Serbia and will continue to work closely with Serbian partners in order to monitor the situation on the ground and ensure proper coordination in fighting the disease. The EU stands ready to further support Serbia in its efforts to ensure animal welfare and food safety, both through its emergency mechanisms as well as ongoing and future projects from EU’s pre-accession funds.

The European Commission, in consultation with EU Member States, granted Serbia 50.000 doses from the stock of the LSD EU vaccine bank after the Serbian authorities made an official request for assistance on 9 June.  The donation from the EU vaccine bank is meant to assist the initial stages of Serbia’s vaccination campaign against LSD after which the national campaign will continue. The EU had previously sent an emergency veterinary expert team to Serbia who met with Serbian authorities, providing technical and scientific support and advised on diagnosing, managing and monitoring of the LSD outbreak.
