Employment debate

Employment policy in the EU countries and Serbia, the gap between education and employment, as well as active measures aimed at securing jobs – these were the main topics of the recent public debate “Youth in the EU – education and employment policy“ held within the project aimed at preparing the EU Glossary. The session, organised by EU Info Point Novi Sad, took place at the Faculty of Economy and Engineering Management in Novi Sad.

Speakers at the event were: Vladimir Medovic, editor of the EU Glossary, Steffen Hudolin Head of Operations II at the EU Delegation to Serbia, Nevena Letic of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and Milena Skaljac Assistant Director at Erasmus+ Office. The debate was moderated by Tamara Krstic of the Faculty of Economy and Engineering Management in Novi Sad.

Marija Popovic of Team Europe presented the European Volunteer Service and talked about conditions of recruitment competitions. Nevena Letic spoke about the gab between education and employment and also presented active measures for youth employment.

Goal of the session was to start the debate about education and youth employment policy as parts of the EU integration process. The participants showcased some of the main terms, concepts and institutions relevant to the topic, as well as reforms which Serbia should undertake in order to create conditions needed to improve the quality of life among youth and encourage the development of society.

EU Delegation to Serbia’s project EU Glossary kicked off in 2015 with the goal to publish a structured glossary of terms containing more than 250 terms relating to the European Union. This comprehensive collection is a unique resource aimed at more thorough awareness raising about the process of EU integration in Serbia. It should provide accurate and comprehensive information about the EU, functioning of its institutions, history of European integration and the scope of European integration process in Serbia.

EU Glossary will be completed in early 2017 and available in print and electronic version.
