Donation in the form of 55 secondary waste collection kits was delivered by the European Union in Krusevac, mainly to members of Roma community.
Total value of the donated equipment is EUR15 000, consisting of secondary waste collection carts and safety equipment for collectors. The delivery took place at the PUC Krusevac.
A total of 55 kits have been delivered, 40 of which went to individual collectors, mainly of Roma nationality, whereas the remaining 15 kits have been handed to collectors operating in rural areas.
The donation has been implemented within the project “Empower! Socio-economic Inclusion of Roma and Rural Poor through”.
“The project shows the EU’s commitment to support the development of local community, decrease poverty among most vulnerable social groups and step up integration of Roma population in society, as well as its concern for environment,” said Head of Operations I at the EU Delegation Nicolas Bizel.
The project “Empower!” is funded by the EU and implemented by PUC Krusevac with support from the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.
Recycling facility of the PUC Krusevac was set up in 2005 with annual capacity between 130 and 150 tons of waste.
The “European Union support to inclusive society,” a project funded by the European Union with EUR5.4 million, aims to ensure greater social inclusion of vulnerable groups in Serbia such as the elderly, children, minorities including Roma and others. Through the project, the EU has granted EUR4.3 million in the form of 28 grants to be implemented in 36 cities and municipalities in Serbia by the end of 2017. The projects implemented by national and provincial social welfare institutions, towns and municipalities, social welfare centres, citizens’ associations, foundations, educational institutions and public companies will increase the scope and quality of services at the local level in social and health care, housing, education and employment, and thereby strengthen the social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
The project is implemented by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.
