The EU made a donation of three passenger cars adapted for transportation of persons with disabilities and a cargo van to the Sremska Mitrovica Red Cross within the “Boards without borders” project. One of the vehicles is intended for the Centre for Social Work in Sid.
On behalf of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Steffen Hudolin handed over the keys to vehicles. The donation is part of the wider EU project “Improving the quality of life of marginalized groups“.
The Red Cross branch in Sremska Mitrovica has received three passenger cars adapted for transportation of persons with disabilities. The project kicked off on 12 August 2016 and is scheduled to run until 12 February 2018.
The EU donated four vehicles to Sremska Mitrovica and Sid in an effort to support flood relief in the aftermath of 2014 floods that hit Serbia. Also, boats are expected to be donated in the coming period. The value of the vehicles stands at EUR135,000, whereas the entire donation amounts to EUR300,000.
The City of Sremska Mitrovica has helped to build three garages for ambulance vehicles with RSD336,000. The representatives of institutions expressed their gratitude for the donation that will help to take better care of persons with disabilities.
Representatives of the Sremska Mitrovica Red Cross said that the provision of service of free transportation for persons with disabilities should start in early October.
