EUteka corner, a library section dedicated to EU-related information, opened at Stevan Sremac Public Library in Nis.
EUteka corner in Nis is among 45 EU corners in libraries across Serbia which form the EUteka network, a project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia.
Each EUteka corner has a desk, a chair and a computer as well as a bookshelf with EU publications in Serbian, covering a wide range of topics: EU functioning, EU support for education and entrepreneurs, the process of EU accession of Serbia, as well as publications dealing with studying, working or volunteering in EU Member States.
“Currently, 45 municipalities in Serbia host EUteka corners in their libraries. EUteka corners are places where people can find relevant Europe and EU-related information. We have supported the municipalities and libraries which have taken interest in informing their users on the EU. Now more than ever, it is clear that the EU is Serbia’s strategic priority, which is why we believe it is very important to make citizens as informed as possible, younger citizens in particular, about the benefits Serbia derives from the EU accession process,“ said Paul-Henri Presse Head of Information, Communication and Media at the EU Delegation to Serbia during the opening of EUteka corner in Nis.
On the occasion of EUteka corner launch, the Public Library Stevan Sremac hosted a debate aimed at high school students “Let’s talk about the EU“. Naim Leo Besiri, a member of Team Europe Serbia, talked to students about their perception of EU’s presence in Serbia and the extent to which they recognise the importance of accession. Masa Djordjevic, a student from Nis who has spent some time at a university in Spain within the Erasmus+ programme, shared her experience of living and studying in the European Union.
In the coming period, another 44 EUteka corners will be set up in municipalities across Serbia.
