On 20 and 21 May 2015, Head of European Union Delegation to the Republic of Serbia Ambassador Michael Davenport will visit Zajecar and Negotin. He will also meet local officials and tour Gamzigrad and Rajac breweries, the sites included in EU-supported project Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route.
The visit starts on Wednesday, 20 May, at 13:00, with a tour to Gamzigrad and archaeological site Felix Romuliana, where the presentation of pan-European project Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route takes place, the project implemented in cooperation with Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania. Key note speakers at the project promotion are Ambassador Davenport, Mayor of Zajecar Velimir Ognjenovic and Director of Zajecar Museum Bora Dimitrijevic, as well as project leader of Danube Competence Centre.
Head of the EU Delegation will visit Negotin in the evening, where he will meet President of the Municipality Jovan Milovanovic and tour Rajac breweries, important cultural and historical landmark with high tourist potential. Within Tourist Triathlon project, financially supported through Serbia-Bulgaria CBC Programme, Negotin Tourist Organisation has fit out several hiking trails.
On Thursday, 21 May, Ambassador Davenport will tour regional bee-keepers training centre, introduced within project Danube House of Honey, financially supported by European Union and Austrian Development Agency – ADA. Regional training centre is one of its kind in Serbia; project’s goal is to support economic development of rural areas in East Serbia.
Head of the EU Delegation will then assist the celebration of Spasovdan, slava of the Municipality of Negotin. He will also tour the town and its surroundings – Hajduk Veljko Museum, House of Mokranjac and old Negotin Church (Church of the Holy Virgin).
Ambassador Davenport will also tour Negotin winery, whose wines have been named best for two years in a row. This tour will be organised by Tourist Organisation of Negotin which is in charge of implementation of project Lower Danube – Better Side of Tourism.
