On Thursday 12 June, the European Union Information Centre hosted the opening of the comic book exhibition entitled “Mine, Yours, Our Tomorrow”, created by young people from Belgrade, Novi Sad and Vršac, participants of the “OKO NAS” Centre for Cultural Action’s project.
The works featured in the exhibition represent the outcome of comic book contest of the same name, aimed at strengthening understanding, respect and tolerance among young people and different cultures. The exhibition features 95 independent and collective artworks done by 115 participants.
Project’s participants were young people of Tehnoart Belgrade school, “Đorđe Lobačev” comic book school, Centre for Youth Integration, Design School, German School in Belgrade, GRUBB (Gipsy Roman Urban Balkan Beats) Foundation, French School in Belgrade, School of Design “Bogdan Šuput”, Milan Petrović・ Primary and Secondary School from Novi Sad, Shelter for Children from Novi Sad, Art Studio Morariu and Hemofarm Foundation’s project Equal social opportunities・ from Vršac.
Besides from the Director of “OKO NAS” organisation Jasna Augsten, who spoke about the project’s beginning, other speakers at the opening ceremony were EU Info Centre’s representative Marina Rakić, Head of the Culture Department of the German Embassy in Belgrade Inge Vera Erler, and Director of Hemofarm Foundation Snežana Radočaj. They stressed that their institutions bolstered the project as a significant one in the field of developing the tolerance and differences, as well as supporting the youth.
The visitors were shown a film in which project’s participants talked about their immediate future and what they expect from it. Director of “OKO NAS” organisation awarded the best comic books’ authors. However, members of the GRUBB group aroused the greatest interest and got the most applause for their rap music and dance acts.
The exhibition is open until 19 June.
