The EU Ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, and the Ambassador of the Republic of France in Belgrade, Pierre Cochard, met in Novi Pazar with Mayor Nihat Biševac. The diplomats expressed their sorrow for the tragedy, because four minor children died after a fire broke out in a residential building in the city centre yesterday. The Mayor Biševac emphasized that the solidarity expressed on this occasion is extremely valuable.

“This is a tragedy for the whole city. I am grateful to our guests for expressing their condolences to the families of the victims, citizens, and the entire community. The previously planned meeting was postponed for another time, with a brief overview of all the projects that we are implementing with the support of our friends in order to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Novi Pazar and with the desire to respond to challenges, which are easier to solve with the support of the European Union and its member states”, said the Mayor Biševac after the visit.

The Head of the EU Delegation, Emanuele Giaufret, expressed his sincere condolences to the citizens of Novi Pazar for the loss they suffered.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the community of Novi Pazar, and we will certainly implement the planned visit in full in the near future. We care about the citizens of Novi Pazar, where the European Union is present through a large number of various projects, from cross-border cooperation, support to young entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, to infrastructure. As early as on the next meeting, we will try to turn the challenges into new opportunities and advantages of this region. I emphasize once again that we are extremely sorry that four young lives were lost”, said EU Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret.

The Ambassador of France, Pierre Cochard, also sent his sincere condolences.

“I am grateful to the Mayor for the opportunity to express sympathy in this tragedy, but also to briefly exchange opinions and ideas. We do many things, but we will do a lot of things jointly in the future as well, which I believe will be the topic of the next talks. Today, above all, I express my condolences to you once again”, said the French Ambassador, Pierre Cochard.
