The European Union has continued to provide relief to May’s flood affected areas in order to help people recover as much as possible ahead the forthcoming winter. Through EU Assistance for the Flood Relief in Serbia Programme and its partners, thousands of Serbian families will receive aid starting from next week, in addition to those who have already received it.
Winter crop packages will be distributed 1-10 October 2014 to 4,427 families from 24 municipalities hardest affected by the floods. The distribution of animal feed for 2,130 farming families in Čačak, Lazarevac, Obrenovac and Trstenik is succesfully completed.
The small and medium repairs of all affected private houses in Krupanj will start next week. This will include 193 families whose homes were affected during the floods. This intervention will cost around EUR 183,000 and is expected to be completed by mid-November 2014.
Some 340 families, whose houses were damaged during thefloods, were selected by the Beneficiary Selection Committees to receive European Union support in reconstruction of their homes in Valjevo, Osečina, Mali Zvornik, Ljubovija, Šabac, Bajina Bašta, Šid, Loznica, Čačak, Paraćin, Jagodina, Velika Plana, Smederevska Palanka, Ub and Koceljeva while 46 families in same municipalities will obtain new prefabricated houses. The finalisation of the reconstruction is expected until December 2014, while the prefabricated houses should be completed until January-February 2015.
The EU-funded reconstruction of the Elementary School “Jefimija” in Obrenovac, worth EUR 23,000, is successfully completed. The reconstruction of two elementary schools – “Stojan Novaković” and “Laza Lazarević” – in Šabac affected by the floods will start next week through the European Union Assistance for the Flood Relief in Serbia Programme. The reconstruction worth EUR 11,100 and EUR 32,800 respectively shall be completed by mid-October and mid-November 2014.
