Head of Cooperation of Delegation of European Union to Serbia Holger Schroeder, Head of Operations III of the EU Delegation to Serbia Richard Maša, Deputy Mayor of Vranje Dragoljub Stevanovic, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Cucic and Director of Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) Gordan Velev toured newly constructed houses for refugees of the collective centre “Rasadnik” in Vranje funded by European Union.
“European Union allocated EUR135.000 for the construction of eight houses, thus taking care of 28 people. This is an example of good cooperation that would grow even more fruitful in the future,” said Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Serbia Holger Scroeder.
Houses in Vranje are part of the EU project Supporting Closure of Collective Centres in Serbia through Provision of Durable Housing Solutions for Refugees, IPDs and Returnees, worth EUR1 million through which 177 refugees and IDPs in Vranje, Smederevo and Gadzin Han obtained durable housing solutions. The project is implemented by ASB in cooperation with Commissariat for Refugees.
Families of “Rasadnik” collective centre obtained, not only new houses, but also furniture and appliances. Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Serbia and Deputy Mayor visited some of the most vulnerable families who have finally moved into their new houses after 15 years of living in collective centre’s shacks.
Project took care of 177 IDPs and refugees through construction of 45 prefabricated houses in Smederevo (138 beneficiaries), eight facilities in Vranje (28 beneficiaries) and 11 in Gadzin Han (11 beneficiaries). A total of 64 houses were constructed.
Also, representatives of EU Delegation will tomorrow visit Novi Pazar and Sjenica, where they will tour development projects funded through EU’s European Progres.
