The book “European Mosaic” written by Lithuanian Prof. Dr. Gediminas Vitkus was presented to the public in Novi Sad by EU Info Point there, a day after its premiere at Belgrade Book Fair. Prof Vitkus, Head of the Department of European Studies of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of the University of Vilnius, attended the Novi Sad presentation held at the European Corner of Novi Sad City Library . Thus audiences in Novi Sad had a chance to hear and meet the author of the book published for the first time in Serbian language.

“People sometimes have an entirely wrong perception of the European Union. They believe it is about Brussels and European institutions, such as European Parliament, European Commission, etc. These are, however, only the tip of the iceberg,” Professor Vitkus said.

“Foundations and the essence of this iceberg are represented in EU Member States, their different cultures, identities and histories. Even though we are all different, we are connected by the same values, and that is what makes the ‘European Mosaic’ function,” he added.

The debate that followed introductory presentation was also participated in by Ramūnas Janušauskas Head of Information, Communication and Press of the EU Delegation to Serbia and Docent Dr. Veran Stancetic Vice Dean of Political Science study programme of the Faculty of European Legal and Political Studies of Edukons University in Sremska Kamenica.

Debate entitled “Serbia on the EU path and the experience of the largest enlargement in 2004” was very constructive and dynamic, whereas the questions asked by the audience were described as very challenging and inspiring by Prof. Vitkus.
