The European Union is Serbia’s biggest donor because over the past 14 year it has provided financial assistance to a tune of some three million euros in all sectors.

With a cumulative EU donation of 25 million euros to the Nikola Tesla thermal power plants, equipment has been updated, coal consumption has been reduced, production of electricity has increased, whereas the air pollution has decreased.

The EU has pledged to solve the issue of refugees and IDPs in Serbia and has, since 2000, donated 74 million euros to provide housing solutions and resolve their problems.

The EU has donated 120,000 euros to the project STOP! Stop Human Trafficking.

EU PROGRES is a development programme aimed at municipalities in South and South-West Serbia which is financed by the EU, Swiss and Serbian governments with the aim to empower minority groups.

The amount of 1.9 million euros was allocated to vocational training in Serbian detention facilities.

Education for All is a two-year project financed by the EU with three million euros. The position of pedagogical assistant was in 180 schools, whose role is to provide children with equal opportunities, children from marginalised groups in particular.

Through its Municipal Infrastructure Support Programme, the EU, with a donation of five million euros, has supported Subotica’s waste water treatment plant, thus improving environmental protection in Subotica and its surrounding.

Within the project Development of Community-based Services for Children with Disabilities, the Saint Sava School in Umka has been adapted and equipped for full-day residence for primary and secondary school children with disabilities. The EU has donated 5.5 million euros in a better quality life of 930 children and introduced 52 new services for children with disabilities.

In May 2014, the European Union activated its Civil Protection Mechanism immediately after the catastrophic floods in Serbia and BiH. More than 800 personnel were deployed, whereas for the repair of consequences of the floods and prevention of new ones, the EU provided 102 million euros out of IPA funds. 1000 residential buildings have been built or renovated, 450 small and medium enterprises have been restored, 14 primary and secondary schools and one kindergarten have been rebuilt, while 11.5 kilometres of road have been renewed between Krupanj and Korenita.
