Mayor of Pozarevac, Representatives of Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and UNHCR, have signed the Agreement on the construction of 13 prefabricated houses in the Municipality of Kostolac.

13 prefabricated houses will be constructed within Support for improvement of the living conditions of forced migrants and closure of collective centres Project, funded by the EU Delegation to Serbia within IPA 2012.

Goal of the Project is to foster social inclusion of socially vulnerable persons and internally displaced families housed in informal collective centres “Stari Kostolac“ and “Kombinat Kostolac” in Pozarevac.

The City of Pozarevac will provide infrastructurally equipped lot on a quality location in Kostolac, draft urban planning documentation and issue all necessary permits. Commissariat for Refugees and Migration is coordinating the closure of collective centres. The Project is implemented by UNHCR in partnership with NGO Vizija.

13 beneficiary families – 11 internally displaced and 2 domicile socially vulnerable families will be entitled to live in houses but not to buy them off. Following the construction, a total of 13 households will enjoy improved living conditions. Houses will be equipped with basic furniture.

A total value of construction works and furnishing amounts to some EUR250,000. Completion of construction works is due in late December 2015. The Project is part of a more comprehensive programme funded by the EU aiming to support the improvement of living conditions of forced migrants – “For A Better Life” – with a total value of EUR14.2.
