The EU Green Diplomacy Week is a global campaign launched by the European Union to foster cooperation on climate change and inspire meaningful climate action. Established in 2019 as Climate Diplomacy Week and rebranded in 2023 as EU Green Diplomacy Week, it brings together EU Delegations and embassies of EU Member States worldwide hosting activities to engage the public, encourage dialogue, and promote collaboration on critical environmental issues.
From November 15 to 24, 2024, events across Serbia will be organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, in partnership with local allies and key partners, including projects EU for Green Agenda in Serbia and EU4Green, Pulse of Europe and EkoOpstina programmes, organisations such as BirdLife in Serbia, Coalition 27, Cluster of Urban Planning, NAAEV, Vojvodina Environment Movement, Zajecar Initiative, Cluster of Urban Planning, Invicta Bikes NoviSad, Discover Serbia, French Institute, Nature Park Zlatibor, Faculty of Forestry BU, Odiseja and Heliks Publishing House – Creative Europe, Sremske novine, Agromedia
Aligned with four major events on the global climate and environment agenda—the UN Convention on Biodiversity (COP16) in Colombia, the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, the fifth session of negotiations for a legally binding agreement on plastic pollution (INC-5) in South Korea, and the UN Convention on Desertification (COP16) in Saudi Arabia—Serbia’s 2024 Green Diplomacy Week offers a diverse programme of educational, creative, and practical activities. With major events hosted at the EU Houses in Belgrade, Niš, and Novi Sad, the programme includes conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and community activities.
From tree planting and endangered species protection to interactive games, sustainable waste management education, and cultural events exploring ecology through literature and art, Green Diplomacy Week invites everyone to play an active role in the fight against global warming and beyond.
The campaign provides a unique opportunity to highlight Serbia’s commitment to climate diplomacy and its role in the global climate effort, aligning it with major European and international initiatives focused on climate change, sustainable development, and environmental protection. As the global leader in ecological transition, the EU remains Serbia’s main funding partner in environmental protection efforts—covering areas such as climate action, air and water purification, nature conservation, pollution control, waste management, and civil protection. Since 2007, the EU has provided over €582 million in grants and investments to support these initiatives in Serbia.
Green Diplomacy Week 2024 highlights the EU’s commitment to tackling global environmental challenges, while reinforcing Serbia’s active role in this collective mission.
