Over the past two days, citizens of Niš had the opportunity to visit the interactive exhibition “Innovation on the Move” at the Science and Technology Park, organised by the Delegation of the European Union as part of Europe Day celebrations throughout May. The exhibition caravan has already visited five cities, offering visitors a unique experience — guided tours, virtual reality journeys, and fascinating insights into the worlds of innovation, science, technology, and art.

The interactive exhibition is open to the public and designed for all generations. One part features a presentation by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), while the other is a virtual reality (VR) corner. The CERN exhibition was created by the Center for the Promotion of Science, and young scientists and associates of the Center guided visitors through the interactive content. They shared intriguing facts, including that touchscreen technology and the World Wide Web (www) were invented at CERN.

Slavoljub Mitić, a physics teacher at the “Svetozar Marković” high school in Niš, visited the exhibition with his students who have a special aptitude for mathematics.

I always try to nurture more than just the standard curriculum in my students—introducing them to new topics, broadening their horizons, and helping them discover interests they may wish to pursue. I find this exhibition very interesting. I’ve had the opportunity to visit CERN myself, and I believe it is valuable for young people to become familiar with it—perhaps some of them will even have the chance to visit CERN,” said Professor Mitić.

The youngest visitors from Niš were especially excited about the virtual reality corner, created in collaboration with an award-winning VR/XR producer from Estonia, an EU Member State. Some of the VR films explored topics such as caves, volcanoes, space, children’s dreams, and particle physics. The selection included two films from CERN, four European science films, and two animated children’s videos — offering a captivating blend of science, storytelling, and art.

Niš is the fifth city the “Innovation on the Move” exhibition caravan has visited—after Novi Sad, Čačak, Kragujevac, and Pančevo. Following its stop in Niš, the Europe Day caravan continues its journey across Serbia and will visit Novi Pazar on Thursday and Friday, May 29–30, where it will be hosted at the Cultural Center Novi Pazar.
