Final conference within Strengthening Institutional Capacity of Commission for Protection of Competition, funded by the EU with EUR2.7 million donation, was held at Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
The project was implemented from September 2012-September 2015. In line with obligations under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, the project was focused on providing technical and operative support to the Commission to strengthen its institutional capacity in implementing policy of protection of competition, as well as on Serbian Chamber of Commerce, to bring their members closer to competition policy. The project was implemented by a consortium led by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Main topics of the conference were presentation of models of corporate accountability, and principles and possibilities of leniency. At the same time, closing conference summed up the outcomes of this successful project and served as a framework for knowledge exchange that would further improve competition policy in Serbia, being one of the most important policies for smooth functioning if the free market.
The following were considered main results of the project: introduction of file management system and operational database which would allow for control of every single file the Commission has, and publication of “Treatment Manual” describing each step of procedures within the competence of Commission for Protection of Competition.
At the very beginning of the conference, President of Commission for Protection of Competition Miloje Obradovic and President of Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez signed Cooperation Agreement between the two institutions.
The conference was participated in by President of Commission for Protection of Competition Miloje Obradovic and President of Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez, Freek Janmaat Head of European Integration Section of the EU Delegation to Serbia, officials of regulatory agencies and representatives of business associations and companies.
