Creating an inclusive society is among EU’s priorities when it comes to supporting Serbia and this will remain so in the future, said Luca Manunta Programme Manager of the EU Delegation to Serbia, speaking at the first information session about the call for proposals within the “Support to the social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups, including Roma, through more diversified community-based social services” project.
The EU has provided €4,35 million to finance the project, out of which €2,9 million are allocated to finance community-based social services projects, while €1,45 million is earmarked to finance projects concerning active inclusion of Roma.
Manunta said that EU has already given €100 million for a variety of projects about social inclusion, such as providing housing for refugees and displaced persons, as well as education and inclusion of Roma people.
The EU goal is to ensure that the most vulnerable groups are able to fight for a better life by themselves and to truly become a part of society, Manunta said.
Head of the Republic Institute for Social Protection Božidar Dakić said that this call for proposals was the first to propose the achieving of EU standards and was going to contribute to the development of community-based social services.
The first in a series of information sessions was held in Belgrade, arousing great interest of potential applicants. Information sessions are to be organised throughout Serbia by the EU Delegation in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy. The next session was to be held on April 2 in Novi Sad, followed by the sessions in Niš and Užice on April 3 and 4, respectively.
