Romania has been among the countries most supportive of Serbia and Western Balkans’ EU accession, and this support is one of Romania’s top foreign policy priorities, the country’s Ambassador in Belgrade Daniel Banu said.

Romania stands ready to support Serbia on its EU path, providing both political and technical support, Banu told the students of Law and Political Sciences faculties, who visited the Embassy of Romania within the “Open Doors” event, organised by the EU Info Centre as a part of the Open Europe programme.

Serbia and Romania as neighbouring countries share common history Banu said, adding that he could share his country’s many experiences regarding EU integration process.

Given different circumstances of the candidate countries, the accession talks ran differently as well, but as a post-communist country and fostering a young democratic society, Romania would like to pass its experience on to Serbia, the Ambassador said.
