Serbian docu-drama “Logbook_Serbistan” by the famous director Zelimir Zilnik and produced by Playground, is the winner of the 62nd Belgrade Festival of Documentary and Short Feature Film in the category of Feature Documentary.
The documentary, funded through the European Union’s “Strengthening media freedom” project, premiered in Dom sindikata in Belgrade within the official competition programme of the Festival, on Saturday, 28 March; the winners were announced on the last day of the Festival at the official closing ceremony.
Belgrade Festival of Documentary and Short Feature Film, held for the 62nd time, is the leading, most prestigious film event of the year in the area of documentary film in the region.
“Logbook_Serbistan” is a 94-minute docu-drama which focuses on the lives of illegal migrants and asylum-seekers who are housed in refugee centres in Serbia following dramatic flights from the war and destitution gripping areas in North Africa and the Middle East.
Following the complex period of adaptation to life in Serbia, mutual goal of the majority of migrants is to arrive to their final destination – one of the EU Member States.
This documentary highlights the socio-political context in which these people show their individual worth, and become protagonists with whom viewers can identify whose struggles through adversity and whose fates they can understand.
The docu-drama was filmed in 2014 at different locations in Serbia (Subotica, Sjenica, Tutin, Novi Pazar, Bogovadja, Banja Koviljaca, Belgrade and Novi Sad).
