Every September, Europe comes alive with a vibrant celebration of sustainable transport, creativity, and community spirit. This year, under the inspiring slogan “Mobility for Everybody,” European Mobility Week invites all Serbian citizens to reimagine how we navigate our cities and create public spaces that are healthier, greener, and more inclusive. Get ready to explore innovative ways to move sustainably, connect with your community, and contribute to a cleaner, more vibrant urban future. From exciting events to hands-on activities, this week is your chance to rethink mobility and make a difference.

Serbia, with 15 cities and municipalities registered so far, will once again be part of this continent-wide campaign, with Europe House Belgrade and Niš at the heart of the programme. The activities are organised in partnership with the EU for Green Agenda in Serbia project (implemented by UNDP), Transport Community and Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities.

The highlight of the programme will take place on 16 September in Belgrade, with engaging educational activities at Europe House and Knez Mihailova Street. Pupils will be welcomed for a playful discussion on the meaning of smart mobility, led by Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath, Ambassador of the European Union to Serbia. This will be followed by a photo exhibition from the Pulse of Europe project, showcasing the best European Mobility Week practices from five EU member states, a digital cycling experience, and a traffic safety presentation.

Outdoors, the young participants will be invited to explore the Cyclist Polygon—a specially designed educational course that combines learning with fun, featuring obstacles like balance beams, mini-ramps, and pump tracks to help them build confidence and cycling skills.

“I warmly invite everyone to take part in European Mobility Week and discover how smart, sustainable mobility can enhance our health and protect our environment. Mobility is the backbone of thriving cities—and the European Union stands with Serbia in building greener, more inclusive transport. This year, we are focusing on educating the younger generations, as they are at the heart of the effort to promote a healthier lifestyle. As the EU’s flagship awareness campaign on sustainable urban mobility, European Mobility Week has also become a well-established tradition in Serbia over the years, bringing together citizens, institutions, and local communities,” said Andreas von Beckerath, Ambassador of the European Union to Serbia.

During European Mobility Week, we bring together citizens once again to celebrate healthy living and environmentally friendly ways of getting around. Our goal is to highlight the importance of safer streets, especially for the youngest participants, while inspiring everyone to embrace sustainable mobility. Ivan Stević, Olympian and Serbia’s most successful cyclist, and his sports organisation Tour de Fun are leading the activities in Belgrade, showing pupils and families how fun, safe, and responsible cycling can be.

During the central event on 16 September, visitors at Europe House will be able to experience the Digital Cyclist Activation and the electric “Green Express” bike. Special bicycles mounted on smart trainers with screens will be available to the public, offering an immersive virtual ride through famous European cities. The interactive setup allows participants to connect with riders from across the world, creating a unique blend of fun, fitness, and technology. The “Green Express” electric cargo bike, backed by the EU for Green Agenda in Serbia project, is an eco-friendly alternative to delivery vans. It significantly reduces harmful emissions, lowers noise pollution, eases traffic congestion, and improves road safety, all while handling last-mile deliveries with ease.

The project “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia”, with the technical and financial support of the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is implemented by UNDP in cooperation with Sweden and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with additional financial resources provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Serbia.

On 17 September, the action moves to Niš, where Europe House Niš will host the hybrid event “Future-Proof Living Spaces for All.” Organised under the FutureECOS Interreg Europe project, the event will bring together participants from Serbia and five European countries to share experience and knowledge on sustainable mobility, smart urban design, and community engagement—through presentations, good practice examples, and a city tour.

The campaign returns to Belgrade on 18 September with the “Ekoopština” Award Ceremony at the French Residence. Launched by the French Embassy in Serbia in 2022, Ekoopština highlights innovative local initiatives in sustainability and environmental protection.

On 22 September the week will conclude with “Interactive School Class on Smart Mobility” at Europe House, designed to inspire young learners to actively discuss, bring forward new ideas and questions and embrace sustainable and safe transport.

This year’s European Mobility Week in Serbia highlights European initiatives for green and inclusive transport, including the European Social Climate Fund and the Pulse of Europe. Since its inception in 2002, European Mobility Week has helped thousands of cities across Europe and the world raise awareness about sustainable mobility and encourage behavioural changes towards walking, cycling, and using public transport. This year, over 1,300 cities and municipalities from 39 countries are participating, continuing the tradition of raising awareness about the importance of sustainable transport options. The campaign encourages local authorities to implement measures that promote walking, cycling, and the use of public transport, aiming to create more sustainable and inclusive urban environments.
