The EU-funded concept of Social Housing in Supportive Environment in Serbia has been selected as one of the 10 finalist of World Habitat Awards 2014 – a renown global competition in the field of housing. This acknowledgement, intended for projects presenting innovative and sustainable solutions in the field of housing, has been awarded in the competition of 200 projects from 80 countries worldwide.

The concept of Social Housing in Supportive Environment was created in 2002 in response to the refugee crisis in Serbia. It presents a unique form of integrated housing and social support to the most vulnerable population.

In the period of 2002-2005, the Swiss Government was the main donor of the project. From 2006 onwards, this concept has been financed mainly by the EU.

By the end of 2014, a total of 1,014 housing units were built in 42 municipalities for 2,643 vulnerable individuals. Out of this number 546 units (54%) were financed by the EU which allocated over 11,000,000 EURO for this purpose.
