The residents of the village of Dugojnica near Surdulica will again have a place for social and cultural activities, as the local cooperative home will be renovated with the support of the European Union.

The foreseen construction works involve the replacement of the roof structure, facade, carpentry, installation as well as equipping the furniture with furniture and computers. The value of the works is estimated at over 60000 euros, of which 12000 were provided by Surdulica municipality.

“The EU has already helped to renovate the school in Suvojnica, and a renovated cooperative home in Dugojnica will serve to organize social and cultural events for locals from this and neighboring places,” said Surdulica municipality president Aleksandra Popovic.

She adds that the facility will also serve to organize training for the improvement of agricultural production.

The project also includes activities related to the implementation of the principles of good governance, which involve the involvement of the population in the drafting of the Rulebook on the manner of using and managing the cooperative home, the EU PRO program states.

The project of reconstruction of the cooperative home in the village of Dugojnica is funded by the European Union in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia through the EU PRO program. The complementary activities of the project related to the implementation of the principles of good governance are carried out in cooperation with the Swiss PRO program supported by the Government of Switzerland.

The European Union supports the activities of EU PRO, a program that contributes to a more balanced socio-economic development of Serbia, with a total of 25 million euros. The program aims to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of micro and small enterprises, improving the business environment and improving social cohesion in 99 local self-government units in two regions: the Sumadija Region and Western Serbia and the Region of South and East Serbia. Field activities are carried out by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
