The Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Western Balkans Zsuzsanna Hargitai said that the EBRD, together with its partners, allocated EUR85 million for the WB6 to improve their energy efficiency in the housing sector, as part of the green economy funding facility in Serbia.
As he presented EBRD’s green economy funding programme, the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi said there is a plethora of reasons to invest in green economy, adding that households can save money thanks to energy efficiency.
According to the Head of the Department for Energy Efficiency and Infrastructure of the Secretariat of the Energy Community Violeta Kogalniceanu, the experience shows that thanks to increased energy efficiency households can save between EUR300-400 or even more annually.
The Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic pointed to previous energy efficiency projects implemented by the Ministry in cooperation with partners institutions such as the EBRD and KfW, which helped to cut energy consumption for up to 40 per cent.
“Households are responsible for some 35 per cent of the total energy consumption in Serbia. This is the area where we can make the biggest savings, having in mind the data that suggests that average Serbian household consumes double or even triple the energy of average household in Europe,” Antic said.
