Organisations ASB and HELP have signed donation contracts with additional 234 flood-affected families in Obrenovac whose homes will be reconstructed in the upcoming period, thanks to EU Assistance Programme. Within the second phase of Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia Programme, the European Union supports the reconstruction of 837 houses, construction of 25 new houses and provides grants to 358 flood-affected businesses, in Obrenovac alone.
Organisation ASB, together with its project partners in Obrenovac, works to reconstruct 385 facilities and provide economic grants to 18 agricultural households, 30 small and 17 medium-sized enterprises. Apart from the delivery of greenhouses, seedlings and equipment, ASB also organises training for farmers in order to help them improve their production. The value of ASB’s project implemented in Obrenovac is EUR1.6 million.
Part of the EU programme implemented by HELP in Obrenovac is worth some EUR1.3 million, intended to support 140 micro and small enterprises and farmers to restart their business activities through provision of equipment, seedlings and greenhouses, as well as to support reconstruction of 175 houses and 12 social housing apartments.
The reconstruction of individual housing units is implemented by three NGOs: ASB, DRC and HELP whose projects are allocated with over EUR4.5 million. The first phase, which started off in January and includes reconstruction of 354 flood-affected facilities, should be completed in May. The second phase covers the 483 additional facilities, as well as rehabilitation of a social housing facility.
EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia Programme, worth 78 million EUR, is financed by the European Union under the IPA pre-accession funds. The money is allocated for construction of new homes, reconstruction of public buildings, private homes, roads as well as economy and agriculture recovery in 43 municipalities most affected by floods: Aleksinac, Arandjelovac, Bajina Basta, Boljevac, Gornji Milanovac, Ivanjica, Jagodina, Kladovo, Knic, Knjazevac, Koceljeva, Kosjeric, Kovacica, Kraljevo, Krupanj, Lazarevac, Loznica, Majdanpek, Mali Zvornik, Medvedja, Negotin, Novi Beograd, Obrenovac, Osecina, Paracin, Pozega, Sjenica, Smederevska Palanka, Surdulica, Svilajnac, Svrljig, Sabac, Sid, Ub, Uzice, Valjevo, Vladicin Han i Zajecar. All activities on the ground are carried out by the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), organisations HELP, ASB, DRC, Austrian Development Agency and World Bank – in coordination with Government’s Office for Assistance and Reconstruction of Flooded Areas.
