How Europe keeps and preserves its cultural heritage; what is the role of the digital platform Europeana; what results has Serbia achieved in and what is its experience of the digitization process? These are the topics of a panel discussion titled Cultural Heritage in Digital Era taking place at the EU Info Centre in Belgrade on 16 March 2018.

The discussion serves as an opportunity to present both Europeana, EU’s digital platform launched in 2008 at the initiative of the European Commission, and Serbian cultural institutions’ contribution to the platform. Also, the guests will have a chance to learn more about the results Serbia has achieved in the process of digitization thus far.

The panel discussion is organised by the EU Info Centre, in cooperation with the National Library of Serbia and Europeana. Welcome address will be delivered by the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Sem Fabrizi. The panelists include Head of Europeana Collections Nienke van Schaverbeke, Assistant Minister for Culture Dejan Maslikovic, and Head of Digital Library Department at National Library of Serbia Ms Tamara Butigan Vucaj.

The event marks official launch of the campaign aimed at cultural heritage, spearheaded by the EU Delegation to Serbia and EU Info Network in Serbia (EU Info Centre in Belgrade and EU Info Points in Novi Sad and Nis). The campaign, held under the slogan Our Heritage: Where the Past Meets the Future, will feature dozens of events organised throughout the country with a view to bringing places of cultural heritage closer to citizens and reinforcing a sense of belonging to common European space. Throughout the year, the European Year of Cultural Heritage will be celebrated together with partners and citizens of Serbia.

2018 has been proclaimed the European Year of Cultural Heritage and is celebrated throughout the Old Continent through numerous manifestations.
