The global health crisis has shifted the focus of decision making from the rights of individuals to the community interest. In a situation when everyone is focused on fighting the pandemic, personal data protection is facing a critical test. That is why SHARE Foundation joined forces with Partners Serbia, A11, Atina, BOŠ, and Da se zna and produced a concise and user-friendly manual on data protection amid the pandemic.
“From the outset of the pandemic, there have been numerous privacy and data protection related issues. Responsible authorities have disclosed sensitive health information, people’s cell phones have ben unauthorizedly monitored, and the whole thing culminated when we came across the data to access the COVID-19 information system on the internet. The manual on data protection amid the pandemic is concise and user-friendly, and it relies on the fundamental principles of the European law, just as the Serbian regulation. We hope that it will be useful to competent authorities and employers and that it will give citizens a fuller understanding of their rights,” says Danilo Krivokapić of SHARE Foundation.
“This guide also marks the beginning of the activities envisaged by the project Reclaiming Privacy: A Tool to Fight Oppression, which is supported by EU Delegation to Serbia,” points out Kristina Kalajdžić, a researcher from the organization Partners Serbia.
