The EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia donated 50 scholarly publications published by prestigious European universities and renowned publishers to the Library of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad.

The same set of books has already been donated to university libraries in Belgrade and Nis and the Library the Faculty of Law in Belgrade. In the coming weeks, the books will be donated to the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade and the University Library in Kragujevac. The expanding of library holdings is part of the initiative spearheaded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia aimed at supporting the academic community in Serbia and bringing it closer to new research tendencies in the fields of law, economy, security and other relevant social sciences.

“Matica Srpska was founded in 1826 with an idea to move Serbia closer to contemporary European trends, while at the same time preserving its national and cultural identity. Besides, its mission was to enlighten as it brought together the most ingenious and educated people of its time,“ Ambassador Davenport said while making the donation of scholarly publications to the Library of Matica Srpska.

The President of Matica Srpska Dragan Stanic and the Director of the Library Selimir Radulovic  thanked for the donation and stressed the importance of this institution for the cultural history of Serbia.

The donation is part of the project EUTEKA – the EU at your library. For more information about the project visit –  www.euinfo.rs/euteka.
