On the occasion of awarding certificates for the course Roma language and culture for the participants within the project “Introduction of the Roma language with elements of National culture in primary schools in Serbia”, Center for education of Roma and ethnic communities organized ceremony at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade.

As part of the ceremony attendees were addressed by a representative of the EUD Mirjana Maksimovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Nenad Ivanisevic, Project Coordinator and a representative of the Centre for Education of Roma and ethnic communities Ljuan Koko, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development Đurđica Ergić, a representative of the Faculty of Philology Aleksandra Vraneš, President of the national Council of Roma national minority Vitomir Mihajlovic, professor of Romani language Rajko Djuric and teachers of the Romani language and Aleksandar Stojkov and Zijuš Šaćirović.

The project “Introduction of Roma language in primary schools in Serbia” aims to enhance and develop educational programs to build the capacity of children and young people interested in the field of preservation and teaching of the Roma language with elements of national culture. In addition, the project will empower, educate and enable acquiring a certificate for at least 40 teachers of the subject Roma language with elements of national culture, and to support their involvement in schools where there are conditions for realizing teaching the subject of Roma language with elements of national culture.

The introduction of the elective subject Roma language with elements of national culture will be implemented in at least 40 schools where teaching is conducted in the Serbian language or languages of other national minorities in Serbia, while the participants will be Roma students and all other interested students.

The project “Introduction of Roma language with elements of national culture in primary schools in Serbia financed by the European Union within the program “European Union Support to Inclusive Society” The project duration is 20 months and the total value of the project is 159.000EUR.

Project “European Support to Inclusive Society”, funded by the European Union with 5.4 million Euros, has the aim to ensure greater social inclusion of vulnerable groups in Serbia, such as elderly citizens, children, members of minority groups, including Roma men and women, and others. The EU has awarded through the project the amount of 4.3 million Euros in 28 grants, which will be implemented in 36 cities and municipalities in Serbia by 2017. Projects, implemented by the republic and provincial social protection institutions, towns and municipalities, centres for social work, associations of citizens, foundations, educational institutions and public companies, will increase the scope and quality of services at local level in the area of social protection and healthcare, housing, education and employment, thus strengthening social inclusion of vulnerable groups.

The Project is implemented by the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Serbia in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.
