A ceremony marking the start of the construction of waste-water purification facility was held in Rvati village, near Raska, in the presence of Environment Minister Goran Trivan and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Sam Fabrizi.

This is the continuation of the work already started on enhancing and building waterworks and sewage system infrastructure in Raska Municipality.

Municipal chairman Ignjat Rakitic, said on the opening celebration that construction of such a facility marks a great day for environmentalism, especially in relation to the Serbian rivers, as out of ten or so such facilities only a few operate properly, like those in Subotica, Sombor and Šabac.

Minister Goran Trivan said that the treatment of waste water is one of the priority tasks for the Ministry of environmental protection, and according to their estimates, Serbia will need an investment of around five billion Euros for building 300 waste water purification facilities, because at the moment only 8% of such water is treated.

“Serbia doesn’t really have that much to spend on this task, so the help and support of European Union in solving these pending issues is even more crucial. This is particularly important because with the opening of this facility the water quality in the Ibar and in the Zapadna Morava downstream of Kraljevo will be thus increased,” said Minister Trivan.

The project of waterworks, collection and purification of waste-water in Raska Municipality is realized with the cooperation of the EU Delegation to Serbia with the aim of enhancing the public waterworks and sewage system infrastructure in Raska Municipality.

The ultimate goal of the project is collection and treatment of all waste-water in Raska Municipality at the new waste-water purification facility in Rvati village.

The value of the project of waterworks, collection and purification of waste water is 6,258,931 Euros of which 5,678,531 Euros is allocated for the construction works and 580,400 Euros for technical assistance.
