The regional project “EU4Green” has launched the “Green Journalism Award” to encourage journalistic excellence and promote quality reporting on the green transition and environmental challenges in the region.

The award is intended for journalistic works dedicated to the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB) and its impact on citizens in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, with the goal of opening a broader public discussion about the region’s sustainable future.

Application deadline is October 9, 2025, and submitted journalistic works should focus on one or more of the following topics related to the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and its impact on citizens:

  • Clean air, water, and soil – fighting pollution and protecting public health
  • Biodiversity and nature – preserving ecosystems and species
  • Sustainable agriculture and food – promoting climate-resilient farming
  • Green economy – from recycling and circular solutions to green finance and investment
  • Climate action – mitigation, adaptation, and community resilience
  • Cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary approaches (e.g. gender perspective, inclusion, social equity) are also strongly encouraged.

Submitted works should address green transition activities in the Western Balkans, efforts or steps toward alignment with the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB), or solutions to local/regional environmental issues under GAWB, ideally highlighting how these efforts affect the lives of citizens.

The author of the top-ranked journalistic piece will be awarded a training course titled “Professional Certificate in Environmental Journalism”, delivered fully online by the London School of International Business.

All additional information on how to apply, who is eligible, and where to send applications can be found on our website EU Opportunities.
