The Foreign Minister of Serbia, Mr Nikola Selakovic – following invitation of Ambassador Fabrizi – joined the online meeting of the Ambassadors of the Member States of the European Union to Serbia and briefed them on Serbia’s foreign policy priority.
On that occasion, the Head of Serbian diplomacy pointed out that full membership in the EU remains one of the key foreign policy priorities of the Government of Serbia, as well as that the EU integration process is a strategic goal, which is also used to improve the quality of society.
Minister Selaković pointed out that Serbia is ready to accelerate the dynamics of the accession process and that, primarily for that reason, it has accepted the new methodology, and he hopes that in the coming period it will receive clearer guidelines on how it will be applied in the negotiation process, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a press release.
The Ambassador of the European Union, Mr Sem Fabrizi – chairing the meeting – welcomed the Minister in his new capacity and reaffirmed unequivocal EU’s commitment to Serbia’s accession to the EU and solidarity in this difficult Covid time.
The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s clear commitment to the EU integration process as the key foreign policy driver, for regional stability and for the EU-led Dialogue with Pristina
Mr Fabrizi in particular underlined EU’s encouragement for a progressive alignment of Serbia with the EU’s foreign policy and for an increasing dialogue on foreign and security issues to promote multilateralism and an international rules-based system.
Ambassador Fabrizi also highlighted that Serbia is already a valued partner of EU CSDP missions and participates in the joint EU Civil Protection mechanism.
The Ambassador also thanked Minister Selakovic for Serbia’s commitment in the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue to find a solution for a comprehensive, legally binding normalisation agreement dealing with all outstanding issues.
The Minister and all the Ambassadors expressed their wishes for good and serene end of the year festivities and agreed to continue to remain in close contact in the new year.
