The gym at the Economics and Trade High School in Prijepolje will be reconstructed thanks to funding to the tune of EUR70,000 allocated by the European Union and the Swiss Government through the European PROGRES development programme.
The reconstruction of the 250 square metres measuring gym includes all necessary reconstruction and painting works, reconstruction of the floor and ceiling, locksmith works, as well as installation and joinery replacement. Also, the project envisages the purchase of modern sports equipment.
“The gym at this school has been out of service for more than three decades. Once it is renovated, over 1,000 elementary and high school pupils and some 400 pre-schoolers from Prijepolje will once again enjoy proper conditions for sports and recreation,“ said Ermedin Duran Director of Economics and Trade High School. As he put it, sports clubs will also have appropriate conditions for training in the modernly equipped gym. Also, the issue of students’ safety will also be resolved as the bulk of gym classes has so far been held at the Sports Hall near the Grammar School.
The recontruction works, carried out by Dekor invest d.o.o. from Priboj, schould be completed in two months, whereas the Municipality of Prijepolje is in charge of technical supervision and inspection.
The European Union and the Government of Switzerland support the activities of the European PROGRESS programme, which contributes to the sustainable development of the South and South West Serbia, with a total of EUR24.46 million. Approved projects will be aimed at strengthening local administration creating a favourable environment for the development of infrastructure and economy as well as improving the implementation of social inclusion and employment policy. The programme is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS).
The municipalities included in the programme are as follows: Novi Pazar, Ivanjica, Nova Varos, Priboj, Prijepolje, Raska, Sjenica and Tutin in Southest Serbia, as well as Prokuplje, Blace, Zitoradja, Kursumlija, Leskovac, Bojnik, Vlasotince, Lebane, Medvedja, Crna Trava, Vranje, Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Vladicin Han, Presevo, Surdulica, Trgoviste, Brus, Aleksinac, Gadzin Han, Doljevac, Merosina, Svrljig, Babusnica, Bela Palanka and Knjazevac in Southeast of the country.
