European Mobility Week (EMW), campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility in cities across Europe, running from 16-22 September, was launched in Belgrade under the motto “Our Streets, Our Choice” in Tasmajdan Park with the participation of elementary school pupils and winners announcement of “Green Ideas for Our City” art contest, organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia, EU Info Centre and Secretariat for Transport of the City of Belgrade.
Stressing the attention the EU has been paying for years to environmental protection in cities, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Oskar Benedikt said this year’s motto was adjusting the streets to the needs of people and not cars.
During the week, a series of actions will take place in Belgrade with a view to promote alternative means of transport and point out that responsible car use and switching to environment friendly means of transport may lead to a significantly higher quality of life.
First in the series of actions was the “Green Ideas for Our City” art contest, went to Kristina Vicentic from Obrenovac and Marija Pestanac from Pancevo who won bicycles, whereas first and second runner-ups were awarded roller blades.
Within the category of elementary school pupils, second prize went to Jelena Micic from Nis, third prize went to Vasilije Ljubicic from Novi Becej, whereas the first runner-up among the secondary school students was Sara Bojovic from Obrenovac with second runner-up being Jelena Damjanovic from Novi Sad.
Works of the winners, as well as 10 more submitted works that have, according to the Jury, demonstrated particular creativity, will be displayed on and branding two public transport trams until the end of September in Belgrade.
Award ceremony will take place on Saturday, 20 September, on Trg Republike Square in Belgrade, the venue that will also host the exhibition of the most successful works submitted, to be followed by the exhibition in EU Info Centre, in the lobby of Dom omladine.
European Mobility Week is an annual campaign on sustainable urban mobility, which runs from 16 to 22 September every year across Europe. It is expected that this year’s campaign, 13th in a row, sees the participation of over 2000 cities in 43 European countries, including Serbia.
