The European Film Festival, organized by the Europe House Novi Sad, was successfully held in eight towns and villages throughout Vojvodina. Audiences in Bačka Palanka, Apatin, Pančevo, Vršac, Novi Sad, Sombor, Subotica and Bečej had the opportunity to enjoy over 100 free screenings of European films.

This event presented the diversity of European cinema, including works co-produced by European countries, as well as films supported by the ACP-EU Culture programme over the last 25 years. The audience had the opportunity to get acquainted with various genres and themes that European authors have covered in their films.

Special guests and supporting events

In Novi Sad, a special segment of the festival was dedicated to the Film Front, which presented a selection of short films from European countries.

In addition to the film screenings, three supporting workshops were held, which attracted the attention of young authors, film professionals and teachers.

  1. Workshop on animations and animated film: Workshop dedicated to improving skills in writing synopsis, screenplays and director’s explanation for animated films and series. The workshop was led by Vojin Vasović, a prominent film and theatre director, in cooperation with To Blink Animation studio.
  2. Presentation of the Bašta Pitch program: Maja Šuša, founder and artistic director of Bašta Fest, presented Bašta Pitch, a unique industry program for financing short feature films. Young authors and professionals were given the opportunity to learn how to develop their projects and apply for a prize of 1,000 euros intended for the production of short films.
  3. Training – seminar for teachers: Documentary films as a teaching tool: Primary and secondary school teachers participated in an educational seminar on the use of documentary films in teaching. The aim of the training was to improve film and media literacy, empathy and critical thinking among students. All participants received certificates, while travel expenses for participants outside Novi Sad were refunded.

Culture for all generations

The European Film Festival brought European cinema closer to the audience in Vojvodina and pointed out the importance of cultural decentralization. Free admission to all screenings allowed a wide audience, regardless of age and place of residence, to become part of this film celebration.
