The Serbian Innovation Fund has, on the occasion of the National Science Day in Serbia, organized an event: “Where Science and Innovative Entrepreneurship Meet”. Results of some of the projects financed under the EU-funded Innovation Serbia Project were presented at the event supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Development.

Innovation Fund has therefore demonstrated on concrete examples the potential of innovations in Serbia, and showed that science and innovative entrepreneurship are strongly connected. The participants had the opportunity to meet 6 selected companies from the Serbian Innovation Fund portfolio, who presented their on-going projects and the developed technologies and projects.

Innovation Serbia Project is financed by the European Union through 2011 Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) funds and is administered by the World Bank.

“An example of these mostly young, successful companies that are financed through the programs of the Serbian Innovation Fund again confirms that the Serbia has a huge potential for innovation,” said Srdjan Verbić, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development. He added: „It is very important why we need to support that the results of scientific research find their way and place on the market. Support of innovative activities is the most important and also the most difficult way to strengthen the connection between science and economy, because without them there is no social progress.”

Company Morena inzinjering presented their multipurpose mobile robot “Cassius”, designed for the international market, whose innovative function is efficient and safe cleaning of clay surface tennis courts.

DNET Innovationi Centar from Novi Sad presented a solution that allows the user to easily develop and launch applications that support the concept of  Augmented Reality for multiple mobile and desktops. Their solution “AR App Genie” is comprised of two main components – a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, which enables cross-platform application development and cloud-based back-end Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution, which enables deployment of developed applications.

That fruit preparation of high quality, based on its proprietary encapsulation technology, resulting in better appearance, freshness, and taste of the final product is possible was shown by Desing company which has over 20 years experience in processing of berry fruits. With the help of the Serbian Innovation Fund, this company is developing a pilot plant for fruit processing in aseptic conditions.

Biounik company presented its experimental biostimulators, based on the mixture of beneficial bacteria together with confirmed auxin activity, which significantly improve the plant growth. The company is operating in the agricultural industry and is currently developing a new type of biostimulator which will improve germination and sprouting of the corn seeds.

Innovative automated device for filling, sealing and packaging plastic containers with liquid fertilizers for use in household applications, which enables controlled release of the fertilizer through micro filters without the direct contact of the user with the fertilizer, was presented the company Chromosome Group. The company is aiming to get the machine working in the full capacity and launch their innovative product on to the market under the trade name of “Duo Click”.

National Science Day in Serbia is celebrated every year on July 10, in accordance with the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia since the year 2010. This event is associated with the birth of the famous Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), who was born July 10 in Croatia.
