Works have begun on construction of the elementary school in Tutin village Zapadni Mojsti, expected to be attended by 48 children from this and nearby villages. Financial funds of 83,000 Euros for the construction were provided by the European Union and the Swiss government through the European PROGRES programme, while Tutin municipality has provided 14,600 Euros.
From next school year, pupils of this four-grade school, in the municipality which, according to its population structure is among the youngest in Serbia, will have a new 200-square meters building with schoolyard available for sports and PE activities, while the local community will be able to use the premises for various cultural events.
„This is an important project for our municipality because we are going to provide adequate conditions for education of children from our villages. We, as a local self-government, are doing our best to provide normal conditions for life and works of people in rural areas, so beside the school, construction works have started on the road leading to Zapadni Mojstir,“ Tutin municipality president Šemsudin Kučević said, thanking the EU and the Swiss government for their investments contributing to Tutin’s development.
„European Union and the Government of Switzerland support improvement of education in both urban and rural areas through development of social infrastructure, thus contributing to creating a society with equal chances for all, “ said Nermin Hasanović, regional coordinator of the European PROGRES for South West Serbia. He added that the EU and the Government of Switzerland have invested through European PROGRES almost two million euros in improving educational conditions in 34 less deveopped municipalities in South West and South East of the country, which has contributed in long term to their social and economic development and decrease migration of population.
The European Union and the Government of Switzerland will support the activities of the European PROGRESS programme, which contributes to the sustainable development of the South and South West Serbia, with a total of EUR24.46 million. Approved projects will be aimed at strengthening local administration creating a favourable environment for the development of infrastructure and economy as well as improving the implementation of social inclusion and employment policy. The programme is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS).
The municipalities included in the programme are as follows: Novi Pazar, Ivanjica, NovaVaros, Priboj, Prijepolje, Raska, Sjenica and Tutin in South West Serbia, as well as Prokuplje, Blace, Zitoradja, Kursumlija, Leskovac, Bojnik, Vlasotince, Lebane, Medvedja, Crna Trava, Vranje, Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Vladicin Han, Presevo, Surdulica, Trgoviste, Brus, Aleksinac, Gadzin Han, Doljevac, Merosina, Svrljig, Babusnica, Bela Palanka and Knjazevac in South East Serbia.
