Fourteen innovative projects in Serbia received financial support from the European Union within the framework of the Collaborative Grant Scheme Program, the Innovation Fund, which is implementing the Program, announced today.
Projects have been submitted by the consortia consisting of micro, small and medium private companies and public research and development (R&D) organizations registered in Serbia, and have undergone an independent evaluation by the international Investment Committee of the Fund. They were assigned the amount of EUR 3m.
A total of 96 projects from 25 cities across Serbia applied and 74 of them met the eligibility criteria. Twenty seven entered the final selection process. Projects which have capable teams, innovative potential and clear development plans as well as sufficient quality to compete in the international markets have been chosen for financing.
The Grant Scheme Program is financed by the European Union in the amount of EUR 2.4 m, and co-financed by the Republic of Serbia through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development in the amount of EUR 1 million.
“We are very pleased to be able to invest the EU taxpayers’ money in the development of high-quality innovative projects like the ones awarded today. In cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Innovation Fund, through this program we continue to contribute to the strengthening of innovative entrepreneurship in Serbia,” says Steffen Hudolin, Head of Operations of the EU Delegation in Serbia.
The Collaborative Grant Scheme Program aims to bring together private companies and public R&D organizations in Serbia to encourage the development of innovative products, services and technologies with commercial application.
“The support provided by the EU through the Grant Scheme contributes to the efforts of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development to encourage the development of innovative projects and commercialization of innovative ideas coming from the academic community. This is the first time that joint projects of entrepreneurs and researchers in our country receive not only institutional but also financial support from the state. As an important precondition for strengthening the competitiveness of our economy, innovations are our strategic goal”, says Vladimir Popović, state secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
