In the week marking the World Consumer Rights Day (15 March), the citizens of Serbia had the chance to learn more through the electronic media and the Internet about their rights during shopping, within the Da kupovina bude milina (Shopping as a Pleasure) campaign.
The campaign for consumer rights, Shopping as a Pleasure, is conducted within the Twinning project “Further development of consumer protection in Serbia” implemented jointly by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia, Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology and the Regional Development Agency Senec-Pezinok from Slovak Republic.
„It is very important to promote the protection mechanisms, to shorten the procedure of exercise of consumer rights and empower non-institutional resources, represented by the associations as a first instance for providing assistance to consumers. We also need to raise awareness of the retailers about the benefits of meeting the needs of consumers, as well as to establish the mediation mechanisms in case of disputable situations in case of consumer complaints,“ says the State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tatjana Matić, adding that most of these complaints refer to goods like shoes, clothes and appliances.
“Consumer protection is an important and constantly evolving topic, and this project is a proof that the consumers in Serbia are in good hands. The result of efforts of partners on the project will be the improved citizen awareness on the consumer rights, and they will be better introduced with the activities of the competent ministry“, believes Dagmar Repčeková, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Serbia.
