On the occasion of the initiative “Paint me the future of Europe” which is being held in Novi Sad, this year’s European Capital of Culture, the jury officially announced the names of eight young artists who will create a movable mural in Novi Sad from 25th April to 9th May.

Eight young artists, 2 representatives from Serbia, Italy and North Macedonia, and one each from Montenegro and Albania, led by Andrej Josifovski – Pianist, will present their vision of a common future of the Europe through a collective artistic performance.  From 28th to 30th April, they will work on a mural in the creative district on Liman within the program arch “Flags of the Future”, and from 3rd to 5th May, the painting will be performed at the Freedom Square in Novi Sad. Their mural, made in seven separate parts on a moving installation, will be officially unveiled on 9th May as part of the Europe Day celebrations.

EU Ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret said on this occasion: “Culture and artistic expression know no borders – they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration that sharpen our ability to craft a better future. With this initiative, we want to demonstrate the richness and the talent of the young European artists, and their potential to contribute to important topics that will determine our future. The EU and the Western Balkans share the same history and culture, and I am convinced the same destiny. The mural these artists will jointly create is yet another confirmation of our belonging to the same cultural space.”

The decision on the participants of the upcoming event was made by a jury consisting of: Lazar Sakan, president of the jury, creative director and curator of the New Moment Gallery, Dr. Tijana Palkovljevic Bugarski, director of the Matica Srpska Gallery, Nikola Dzafo, one of our most influential conceptual artists, and two representatives of the Delegation European Union in Serbia.

– It is a great pleasure for me to have the opportunity to participate in such a project of undoubted cultural importance. The mural, as a type of performance expressed through painting and architectural techniques, has gained deserved artistic credibility in the last few decades. The selection process was not easy at all, a large number of quality works arrived and the jury was really in great trouble to choose eight authors who will present a different, original and inspiring vision of the future through pictures and colours – said Lazar Sakan on the occasion of this event.

The “Paint me the future of Europe” initiative, organised under the auspices of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, in cooperation with New Moment New Ideas, in partnership with the Novi Sad City Council for Culture, is one in many cultural performances that will present Novi Sad, this year’s European Capital of Culture, in a socially engaged way.
